SCH hosts engaging and enriching community events for all ages! From long-standing, beloved events like the Halloween Spooktacular, to new events like the Lantern Walk and Nutcracker Tea Parties, SCH is always looking for ways to engage, entertain, and bring people together.

Supper Club

How It Works:
We supply the main dish, salad, and drinks.
You bring an appetizer, side, or dessert.
If your recipe is unique to you, share it for a chance to be featured in our cookbook, set to be published at the end of the year.
Please finalize your recipe one week in advance. We’ll reach out to gather the details so we can create recipe cards to share.
On-site childcare can be added at registration.
Author Readings at SCH
Sellwood Community House loves books, and we love to support the people who write them! If you are interested in showcasing your work at an author reading at SCH, please fill out the form below. Readings are generally held once a month, and we provide:
Moderated Q&A sessions upon request
Complimentary snacks, and drinks for purchase
Coordination with local booksellers to have copies of your books on hand for signing and sale, upon request.

January’s Author Reading:
Monday, January 13 | 6:30 – 8 pm | Sch Lobby | Free
Join Portland authors Michael Keefe and Suzy Vitello as they read from their new novels, All Her Loved Ones, Encoded, and Bitterroot.
Copies of the novels will be available for purchase and signing. Following the readings, the authors will have a conversation about their work moderated by our book club leader, Sarah Bunger, with time included for audience questions. Light refreshments will be provided. Wine and beer available for purchase.
February’s Author Reading:

Please join us as Holly Stern reads from her heartwarming and hilarious book, Theo’s Cat-a-Blog, told from her cat Theo’s point-of-view. In his words, “It’s all about me. (Well, duh, isn’t everything?)”
Copies of the book will be available for sale & signing after the reading; cash payment preferred. Profits to be shared with animal rescue organizations.
The Record Pub Trivia Nights

The Nesting Course
8 week course | wednesdays 12:15-2:15 pm | First class 3/5 | Free with registration | Sellwood community house
The Nesting Course guides expecting parents through the essential aspects of preparing for life after Baby arrives, focusing on both the baby’s needs and the well-being of parents. Each week, Bridgetown Baby's certified postpartum doula and childbirth educator, Katherine Geis, will cover key topics designed to foster a smooth transition into parenthood and equip parents with the tools they need to thrive.
This class aims to help you feel more prepared, informed, and confident as you enter parenthood, with a strong focus on both baby’s development, your own well being, and building a strong community to support you once your baby arrives.
