Closures, Moves, Ways to Help!

Greetings Friends, Neighbors, Supporters!

It has been 11 days since the fire suppression system at SCH malfunctioned, flooding our beloved house with thousands of gallons of water in a very short period of time.  In that short period of time, 82% of the building sustained water damage.

While we initially hoped to be able to be back in the building soon, we now know that we have a long road ahead to repair the damages and rebuild.

Despite the damages to our space, the mission of SCH to be a place of community building and social connection has not changed. We have relocated many, if not most, of our programs and classes to temporary homes and are excited to remain connected with our community even during this upheaval. In fact, we are counting on it. Please see our current schedule and location of classes and programs at the bottom of this email.

Many of our friends and neighbors have asked how you can help support SCH. We are happy to share that there are many fun options! We have created an emergency relief fund that will help sustain our programs and staff while the building is out of commission.

We are also excited to announce that several of our neighborhood small businesses who have offered to host fundraisers for SCH!

Trivia Night at the Record Pub:

Every Wednesday in February, the Record Pub will donate a portion of their bar sales during their Wednesday Trivia Nights to SCH!

Dine in with Henry Higgins:

Wednesday, Feb. 7th, Henry Higgins will donate a portion of their sales to SCH. As if you need another reason to eat bagels!

Painting Pottery at Makerspace Sellwood:

Join one of three pottery-painting workshops, with proceeds going to SCH! Makerspace is an adorable local business, whose owners just happen to be SCH families.

Other ways you can help: Do you know a restaurant or business who might like to host a fundraiser for SCH and/or that would like to donate a service or item to our Spring fundraiser and auction? Let us know! We are SO grateful for the support of our local small business community, who we know has been through the ringer this winter!

Finally, we want to express our profound thanks to our friends at Trackers Portland and Moreland Presbyterian Church who are providing space for our preschool, after school programs and our adult classes and programs.
