Sellwood Community House offers a Preschool program and an after school program. Registration for these programs will begin the week of August 11th for returning families and the week of August 18th for new families. New families will be placed in a lottery for spots, and then onto a waiting list which we will pull from throughout the year.
Sellwood Community House has a half-day preschool program for children 3-4 years of age, and a half-day pre-Kindergarten program for those aged 4-5 years. For our younger participants, the focus is on learning social and listening skills, beginning language and math concepts, following directions and cooperating with others. In the 4-5 year class, those basics are built upon with more pre-academics in reading and math for Kindergarten preparation. Play and exploration are the main tools for both groups’ growth and learning. Children can be enrolled for 2 or 3 days a week (Mon/Wed/Fri or Tu/Th) or a full 5-day week.
Sellwood Community House offers a dynamic after-school program designed to enrich kids’ lives. Serving students from Kindergarten to 5th grade who are enrolled at Duniway or Llewellyn Elementary Schools, the students are brought to SCH by their Portland Public School buses, where they are met and checked in by SCH staff. After a healthy snack, students are divided into groups by grade level and then participate in various activities including arts/crafts, gym games, playground time, and homework help.
