Friends, Neighbors, Supporters:
Whew, what a month it has been! September has been a hectic month as we officially moved into our building on Spokane St and started preschool and after-school programs. Thank you to the many neighbors who came out to help us clean out and organize the building, as well as paint the playground fence. As things are settling back into a routine, we’re gearing up for our next roll-out: new fall programs start next week. Please see below for important updates, and thanks for supporting and volunteering with Sellwood Community House.
Fund-Raiser this Saturday
Please join the Portland Petanque Club on Saturday, Sept 28th from 11-2 at Westmoreland Park for a Lawn Bowling and Petanque event to benefit Sellwood Community House. Donations are $10/person or $20 for a family of 4 (ages 7+). Come get hooked on this addictive game (or show off your mad skills if you’re a pro already!). Register today and THANKS to the Portland Petanque Club for supporting Sellwood Community House.
Thank you to all of our parents for working with us through the settling-in phase of preschool and after-school this month. We have over 100 kids enrolled in after-school alone and only a few spots left in our preschool program. Staff and kids are getting comfortable with routines and settling in well. We’ve been transitioning off of PPR’s system of mechanics and onto our own systems, which has included new phone systems. Please add our new phone number into your Contacts 503-894-9496. At the moment, both the old phone number for Sellwood Community Center and the transitional phone number will successfully connect you to the Sellwood Community House, but these numbers will be phased out over the coming months. Also, a reminder of upcoming school closure days Friday, Oct 11 and Friday, Nov 1. We do have all-day care available, online registration is available.
Have you looked over our full fall programming yet? We’ve got something for everyone!
Indoor Park continues in the gym for babies/toddlers and a great creative dance class for toddlers with their caregivers starts on October 1.
Kids enrolled in after-school care can be pulled out by staff to attend our popular judo or karate classes, or try out one of our new school-age programs such as 3-D Sculpture and Building (6-8 year olds and 8-11-year-olds), Beginning Comics Creation, or Beginning Drawing.
We have great new programs for teens and adults too! Maybe learn a new musical skill? We have offerings for piano, guitar, and ukelele. And don’t forget the importance of exercise–the rainy season is coming, but you can still keep active with our adult exercise classes including Step, Stretch, and Strengthen; Zumba; Community Strength and Conditioning; Yoga; and new ballroom dance classes and argentine tango. We also have new art programs for adults, meditation, and tarot.
PUNCH PASSES are available for Drop-In Basketball, Open Gym for Families, and Drop-In Volleyball.
AND THERE’S MORE! Check out the complete listings at our website.
The always-popular Halloween Carnival will be on Monday, October 28th, 6:30-8 PM. Tickets to play the spooky games will be available at the door. Interested in volunteering to run a game? Vonderful! Reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator Kim or our Director David to find out how you can help.
